Save money on your move

Moving can be expensive, especially if you’re planning to move before the holidays. Although it may be hard to believe, there are many ways to save during this overwhelming time. Daymakers can not only ensure that your moving experience runs smoothly, but we also can provide you with a list of how to save the most money on your move. Check it out!

Declutter & Save

Woman decluttering her belongings

Most people end up with a lot of excess belongings that they no longer need or want over the years. Taking the time to declutter and donate or sell will save you money in two ways: you’ll have less that needs to be loaded into the truck and you can make money on the items that you sell. Utilize a weekend and go through each room, attic, basement, shed, etc. and create a pile of the items you want to part with. You can hold a yard sale, post items on Facebook Marketplace or other online selling platforms, and create a pile of things you can donate.

Save Receipts

Replace Boxes

Replace boxes with suitcases and storage bins

If you have suitcases or plastic storage bins, now is the time to use them to their full potential. Instead of running to the store and buying loads of boxes (although Daymakers can also supply these), you’d be surprised how much you can fit into these makeshift boxes. Roll your clothing up to create more space and pack those into your suitcases. If there’s room left over, you can also pack some breakable items in there as well, as the clothes act as a soft barrier. If you have plastic storage bins, you can pack up wires, plates, more clothes, or anything you think could fit. This will save you a lot of money and time.

Pick Up Free Boxes

Pick up free boxes from local stores

If you’ve exhausted your options (storage bins and suitcases) and you still have a lot to pack – head to local businesses and grocery stores. Most of the time they break down boxes to recycle, so chances are, you’d be able to get those for free. It also doesn’t hurt to post on your neighborhood’s Facebook page or Next Door App and ask if anyone has boxes that you can have. Also, start saving those Amazon packages! We know you probably have a Prime membership…

Replace Bubble Wrap

Use towels to pack breakables

Bubble wrap is surprisingly expensive but you’re not sure what else to use to protect your breakables? Use towels, sheets, and blankets! If you use these items, you’re essentially killing two birds with one stone. You’re packing your towels, sheets, and blankets by protecting your items!
