When it comes to packing, you have to make sure everything is packed well and secured to avoid breakage. If you’re not hiring a moving company to do the packing for you - you’ll need to find the best ways possible to ensure your stuff is safe. Daymakers Moving & Storage can help you pack - but we also wanted to help by putting together this list full of tips for packing delicate items.

Mirrors

Mirrors

Mirrors are something you do not want to break… or you’ll get 7 years of bad luck. In all seriousness, it’s important to carefully pack your mirrors to avoid breakage that could lead to injuries and mess. Start by placing your mirror on a flat, sturdy surface and carefully wrap it with bubble wrap, sheets, or anything padded that you can find. Be sure to tape it all up so it stays tightly wrapped. Depending on the size of the mirror will decide if it can fit in a box or not. If not, find the safest place to place it for the movers to handle on moving day.

Dishes

Dishes

Packing dishes is another task that requires a lot of padding. If you’re getting ready to pack up plates, be sure to pad the bottom of the box, wrap each plate individually, and stack them together. Make sure there is no extra space in the box that would cause the plates to shift around easily. You can also do this technique with bowls, mugs, glasses, etc.

Electronics

Gaming System

Your fragile electronics may be some of your most valuable possessions. Could you imagine if your household’s brand new PS5 or iMac was broken during your move? Protect all electronics by packing them in an organized, safe manner. Wrap the wires neatly in a rubber band, and find padded paper or bubble wrap to put around the actual consoles, devices, or whatever delicate pieces you may have to your gaming systems.

Delicate Items in General
Heavy fragile items are much easier to handle when put into smaller boxes. There is less of a chance for them to shift around inside of the box, and it makes it a lot easier for you or the movers to handle during the move.

Another good tip is to double up on the tape. Whether your items are heavy or light, they are delicate - and you don’t want to have to deal with them escaping the box. Double the tape on the bottom of the box and the top. This will give it a little more security.

If you’re combining heavy, delicate items with something else - make sure those items are at the bottom of the box and are fully protected. Bubble wrap them or place a towel or blanket on the top before adding more to the box. If you are in fact adding more, make sure the items on top are not equally as fragile or heavy - make use of the space by packing your kitchen or bathroom towels, sheets/blankets, or even your rubber kitchen utensils.

Finally, if you are worried about any specific delicate item, pack it as best as you can and add it to your car during the move. Although movers are extremely careful with your belongings, it may make you feel a little less stressed if you move them yourself. Let the movers take care of the furniture and everything else, and just make room in your car for the items you are protective over.
