Summer is a favorite season for most people. The days are longer, the weather is beautiful, and all living things thrive! It’s also a great season to move. Moving in the summer beats moving during snowfall and traveling with ice on the roads. Although it may seem like moving is the same in all seasons, it really isn’t. Daymakers Moving and Storage Company wanted to provide you with the top 7 tips for moving during the summer so you are well-prepared!

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is a tip for moving in any season, but it’s important to add. You want to make sure you have a moving company ready far in advance. Making sure your moving day doesn’t fall on a holiday is also crucial. You don’t want to have to be driving to your new home in 4th of July or Labor Day traffic!

Early Bird Gets the Worm… & Less Heat

Starting your moving day early during the summer is your best bet. The earlier in the day, the cooler it’ll be for you and the moving company’s team. If the truck is loaded up by noon at the latest, the less heat everyone will have to endure. It’s also smart to start early when considering traffic. If you’re moving during a weekday, you know it’s best to avoid commuting traffic.

If the moving company does not have any early days open, see if they can do a late afternoon. In the summer, the days are a bit longer so you’ll have daylight even if it hits the evening and the sun slowly going down will cool it down for you.

Hydrate!

Make sure you have plenty of water bottles for you, your family, and the movers. Moving in the summer can be tough – especially if the heat decides to show off. Hydrating will keep everyone energized, safe, and working efficiently. It’s also a good idea to have water bottles ready at your new home as well, so when everyone arrives, they can get a refresh.

Watch Your Electronics

Electronics and heat do not do well together. Make sure you label each box that has electronics inside, so you know where to load them – whether they are loaded last so they are the first to take out, or if they are going to be put in an air-conditioned car. If there’s a chance of rain, be sure to keep them extra safe when moving them so there is no chance of water damage.

Choose Clothing Wisely

It’s hot in the summer, so dress accordingly. You don’t want to overheat yourself! Wear shorts, t-shirts, or anything you’re comfortable in that will also keep you cool. If the movers are doing most of the heavy lifting, you don’t have to worry about getting too, too hot… but the summer can be brutal, so it’s smart to dress as if you ARE the ones doing the heavy lifting.

Protect the Kids and Pets

Making a plan for your kids and or pets is a good idea prior to moving day. If you have someone in the family or a friend that can keep an eye on them while you move, that would be the best bet. The heat can be a lot on kids and especially on animals. Try to figure out a good game plan for them and then grab them when the move is over!

Make Time for a Break

Breaks are important during a hot summer move. You don’t want to tire yourself out too early – as we’re sure you’d rather get the move done as quickly as possible. Take a few minutes to sit in the air conditioning, have a snack, and drink water. You and the movers will be replenished and ready to finish the job quickly and efficiently!
