If you’re planning to move, you know your anxiety level just shot up. Between crossing your fingers at your home inspection, packing, decluttering, and finding a reputable moving company, stress is an understatement. However, it doesn’t have to be stressful! Sure, you may stress out if you’re starting from scratch and you’re not sure where to start. That’s why Daymakers Moving & Storage is here! Not only can we help you pack, move, and store your belongings, we’ll help you with all kinds of advice! So, if you want an easy move, follow these tips!
Box of Essentials
Days before the move, you’ll want to make an essentials box that holds everything you may need sooner than the rest of your things. For example, phone chargers, laptops, eyeglasses/ contact solution, medicine, etc. Keeping all of these crucial items in one spot with you during moving day will help you out much more than you think! You don’t want to scramble and tear open boxes looking for something you may need!
Label, Label, Label!
Labeling will make your life 100% easier for moving. Try to label everything! Yes, everything. Whether you’re writing on a box or creating labels, be sure to label your pots & pans in a KITCHEN box, electronics, bathroom, Timmy’s bedroom, Sarah’s bedroom, etc. When your belongings arrive at your new home, you’ll know exactly where to separate all of the boxes, making your unpacking easier.
Wrap it up!
Whatever you need wrapped up, our Daymakers crew will do that for you! If you’d rather do it all on your own, we recommend getting a durable shrink wrap and wrapping your couch pillows together, breakable items including furniture, picture frames, and more. The more secured, the easier to move and you won’t need to worry about anything getting scratched or broken!
Packing Clothes
Clothes can take up a lot of boxes. Instead, try to use plastic totes or suitcases to pack most of them! You have to bring the totes and suitcases with you anyways, so why not fill them up! After you’ve reached max capacity, you could either turn to boxes or grab a portable wardrobe.
Another packing tip: roll your clothing! This will keep them wrinkle-free and help you fit a lot more articles of clothing in one spot.
Jewelry Packing!
Jewelry, hair accessories, or anything valuable and small like that can be easily lost in a move. Protect them and put them all in ziplock bags! If you’re worried about necklaces tangling together, tape or rubber band each one, then throw them all in a bag. This way, they’re all separate but in the same place. When it comes to earrings, you can poke them through business cards or a thin piece of cardboard to keep them all together!
Prepare a Pet Sitter
We’ve mentioned this before in another blog, but it’s important to bring it up again; pets need to be contained. We don’t mean crate the dog or cats the whole time, but if your pets are ok with that, go for it! We recommend finding a friend or family member that you trust to hang on to them for the day of the move. There will be less of a chance your dog or cat could get out. Or, if your dogs belong to some kind of doggy daycare, drop them off for the day! You’ll be a lot less stressed and so will your animals!
