Less mess words on wooden blocks.

After decluttering the home you’re moving out of, the last thing you want to do is clutter your new home. So, what can you do to keep your new home nice and neat without spending a fortune? Daymakers Moving & Storage put together some inexpensive home organizing tips for your new home!

Release the Junk, Repurpose Containers

Yard sale in an american weekend on the lawn

While cleaning out your current home, it’s smart to have a yard sale, post some items on Facebook Marketplace (or similar platforms), and donate! That saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” really is the truth when it comes to yard sales!

Whatever you no longer need or want, place it on a table outside and make some bucks towards your new home! Or if you’d rather donate your items to a family in need, find your local donation center and bring it over.

If you have a lot of junk that is not usable, consider renting a dumpster. This will get rid of your unwanted items and will set up your new decluttered future!

Get Creative

Cat climbed into a pile of folded shoe boxes and hides, as if he was hunting someone, looking intently upwards, with copy space.

Instead of buying storage containers for your new home, keep some things around the house like old Amazon boxes, shoe boxes, and grocery bags!

Amazon boxes can hold electric wires to store in the garage, tools, rubber bands, etc. Label the box on the outside and place the box on a shelf or somewhere out of the way!

Shoe boxes are great for extension cords, cleaning supplies, art supplies, etc. These boxes work well because they are small and you can store them away without looking too cluttered.

Grocery bags can hold other grocery bags, rubber bands, seasonal decorations, and more. Instead of throwing out the bags when you go shopping, save them! You can also re-use them and bring them to the store with you if you prefer to help out the environment a little bit!

Hang Items

Neat garage tool hanging storage

Hanging items is a good way to keep the rooms neat and tidy but also gives you the opportunity to store certain items. For example, if you have the space, hang your broom and other cleaning supplies, hang up a laundry sack, or even hang a bag that can hold other items! Keep your garage neat by hanging your tools, equipment, etc. The more floor space, the better!

Shelving & Plastic Bins

An organized Closet

Shelving is a great way to organize your home! This allows you to keep the items you use daily in a convenient spot for you to pull from. Do you have a laundry room? Put shelves in there for your detergent, dryer sheets, bleach, etc. How about kids’ rooms? Think of all the games, toys, books, and more you can fit on shelves – keeping them off the ground. You can either find some cheap shelves to put together at a department store or even at yard sales or, you can build some yourself!

Plastic bins, specifically clear ones, are also a great way to organize your belongings. If you’re a crafty person, put your craft materials in these. If the bins are clear, you can see what you need without having to go through each one.

DIY, yard sales, you name it. There are so many ways to get the things you need to organize your home in cheap ways. If you put some of our tips to use, send us some pictures!
