So, you decided to really start fresh and move to another state? There’s nothing better than starting over in an entirely new environment, especially if you have kids! As exciting as it feels, it probably also feels a bit scary, right? Don’t you fear, Daymakers is here to provide you with some tips for moving to a new state!
Make it Exciting
Your move to a new state should be exciting, especially if you have children. If that’s the case, there are plenty of different things you can do to make your kids feel involved and get them to look forward to the transition. A few things we would suggest include:
– Find an age-appropriate book about the state you’re moving to
– Research fun facts about the state online
– Virtually and physically scope out the fun places that will be around your new home
– Show them pictures of their new school online
Jobs/Careers
If your current job does not have the capability to transfer you to your new area, it’s a great idea to jump on those job sites ASAP. If you can line up some interviews for the week you move in, you’ll be solid. Or, try to score a virtual interview (depending on how far it is) and try to score a job before you move.
If you have teenagers that are of working age, let them know of all the places around your new home where they can apply to as well. They don’t have to do this in advance, but they can prepare and do some research on the companies beforehand!
Schools
Before you decide to move to a specific area of a new state, make sure you are ok with the schools! Check out the average testing scores, sports options, after-school care availability, etc. If you want the best education for your children, the best thing to do is to start with the school research and check out the houses/towns after!
Research Your Hobbies and Lifestyle
Depending on your hobbies and what you like to do in your life, will depend on your choice of town. For example, if you’re more of a laid-back person that enjoys good coffee and a good book, you’ll want to find a town that supports that. Maybe there’s one that has 5-star roasters, book stores, and lounges. Make sure you’ll be happy in the new area you move to before you take that big step.
Find the History
Finding out the history of your home and the area you want to move to is important. You Want to make sure the crime rate is low, if the area has a habit of flooding, etc. This is the safest way to be sure about your desired area without having any surprises after you’ve already moved.
